Accessibility and Orientation at the Theatre

The Jerusalem Theatre works to promote accessibility, with the aim of making it possible for all audiences to reach the compound, including the disabled, to enjoy a cultural experience.

  • Full access to the physically disabled to all halls and to most of the lobbies, including disabled parking, elevators, stair lifts, platform lifts, toilets for the disabled and spaces reserved for wheelchairs in the halls. For your convenience, detailed information regarding accessible ways to the halls is available here

  • Jerusalem Theatre website has been accessed for disabled customers in accordance with Israeli Standard 5568. This in order to ease the usage and access the content and purchase services to our disabled customers.

  • The theatre box office has a counter for the hearing impaired—visitors who use hearing aids supporting T position can utilize an enhancement device at the box office that facilitates hearing the service representative.

  • There is a system in the theatre offering step hear to the vision impaired. The stations are located throughout the theatre and at the main entrances (from Marcus Street and from Chopin Street).

  • Aids for those with special needs are cared for at the theatre by an authorized and specially trained staff.

  • Designated parking spaces for the disabled are located around the theatre building.

  • Platform lift—A platform lift in the theatre provides full access to the bookshop and the café in the theatre foyer. From there one may reach the elevators of the Crown Wing without leaving the building. Operation of the platform lift is assisted by theatre staff.

  • Wheelchair lifts—Two wheelchair lifts in the theatre serve those arriving from the inner disabled entrance. One serves Sherover Hall and the other the Studio.

  • Elevators—Three elevators provide access to the halls:
    • Sherover elevator—from the main theatre foyer into the hall (to the main corridor, between Rows 8 and 9).
    • The Crown Wing elevator—The elevator provides access to all the halls of the Crown Wing, including access to the first balcony and to the Communications Centre.
    • Mikro/Sherover Theatre elevator—The elevator ascends from the Sherover foyer, adjacent to the internal disabled parking area, directly to the Sherover Theatre (Row 24) and to the Micro Theatre.

  • Toilets—Toilets for the disabled are located beneath the Sherover Theatre next to the main Marcus Street entrance and next to the Chopin Street entrance.

  • Headphones are available on loan in the Sherover Theatre foyer before performances. If the stand is not manned, please speak with the theatre representative in the hall.

  • Visual aids—Visual aids may be borrowed in the Sherover Theatre foyer prior to performances. If the stand is not manned, please speak with the theatre representative in the hall.

  • Hebrew/English/Russian subtitles—some of the performances are accompanied by surtitles.

  • Plays with surtitles for accessibility—we utilize a system of transcription and project surtitles in Hebrew/English Russian for some of the performances. Follow announcements in the program and the website.

  • Accessibility for Hebrew films—most of the Israeli films screened at the theatre include Hebrew subtitles. For details about the films, screening dates and translated and accessibility subtitles, consult the website.

  • Accessibility for plays—The theatre participates in the project to provide access to plays to sight and hearing impaired individuals. The project is in cooperation with the Library for the Blind and the National Insurance Institute. For information and reservations please contact  the Library for the Blind by phone 03-7756825 or by email eva@clfb.org.il

  • Further assistance may be obtained from the theatre staff at the Sherover entrance next to the stand for distribution of headphones, at the theatre box office and at the reception at the entrance to the theatre offices.

  • Disabled individuals with special assistive devices (wheelchairs with oxygen, extra-tall wheelchairs, etc.) are kindly requested to arrange their arrival in advance with the theatre’s representative, Adi via email adir@jer-theatre.co.il, in order to obtain suitable seating in the hall.
