Shoshana Katz: From My Viewpoint

Shoshana Katz (b. 1944, Saana, Yemen) is a painter in oils, specializing in portraiture and landscape. Often, the paintings are based on a photograph by the artist. The transfer of an image to canvas, such as a lane in the Old City, is built up of layers of texture. Famous works of art often inspire the artist to create a new work, appropriated in a manner all her own. For example, the Pope’s Garden in Rome is recreated as a green area in Zikhron Yaakov.
