Rosi Calderón: The Power of the Hebrew Letters

"Twenty-two Foundation letters: He engraved them, He carved them, He permuted them, He weighed them, He transformed them, and with them, He depicted all that was formed and all that would be formed." (Sefer Yetzirah, 2:2)

Judaism regards Hebrew as a sacred language, as a means of divine communication. Since ancient times, wise men and mystics have thought that the Hebrew letters are not only an ordinary means of expression, but rather a tool for the creation of the world, which contains energy and divine revelation. Therefore, it is said that the Hebrew letters are used to look further into the inner development of an individual and are recommended for meditation purposes.

"I wanted to understand the esoteric meanings of the letters, and to express it at an artistic level. To pursue this idea, I studied and meditated on the letters. I learned digital art combined with photography to materialize the paintings that were already dancing in my mind. Pictorial works alluding to intangible concepts such as justice and righteousness, charity and sacrifice, the diversity of opposites, forms of healing, the search for truth and the mystery of life." Rosi Calderón

There are twenty-two artworks by Rosi Calderón (b. 1965, Mexico City) in the exhibition. Created from 2013-2020 and composed of digital art and oil painting on canvas, every letter is represented.
