The Melodies of Our Lives
The Israeli Andalusian Orchestra Ashdod
On compassion, resilience, and the encounter between cultures and epochs
Conductor: Roï Azoulay
Artistic director: Elad Levy
Featuring: Ziv Yehezkel and Yagel Harush
The world of Jewish piyyut has always been a vehicle for the artistic expression of paytanims' thoughts and sentiments. Albeit relying on predecessors' idioms, each period brought along novel modes of fashioning piyyutim.
Ziv Yehezkel and Yagel Harush, two Israeli creators who are deeply rooted in the piyyut tradition of the Jewish communities of Aleppo, Jerusalem, and North Africa, will present piyyutim of many generations: From the Sephardic Golden Age through the Jewish Renaissance in Safed and Gaza to the original works of Harush and Yehezkel today—a meeting place between Hebrew, Arabic, and Aramaic.
