From the outset of her singing career in Tel Aviv's cafes and nightclubs to her last days in hospital, there were upheavals in Yafa Yarkoni's personal and professional life. At the play's center is the extraordinary life story of the "Singer of the Wars," as she was dubbed, thanks to her innumerable performances in front of IDF soldiers in times of war and peace. From her early days on stage as a dancer, her first love, her separation from her mother, her second marriage, her departure to New York following her husband, and her deep longing for Israel. In 2002, after an extensive career spanning decades and a tremendous contribution to Israeli culture, her health deteriorated. While suffering from the first signs of Alzheimer's, she gave a celebratory interview to Galei Tzahal in which she criticized the army's conduct in the territories. To her amazement, artists turned their back on her; there were even calls to strip her of the "Israel Prize" awarded her for her many years of work.
The play deals with the gap between the public image and the private life of one of Israeli music's central pillars. The play presents her most popular songs, and the performance salutes Israeli culture and Yarkoni's contribution to Israeli music.
