Otello
Opera on Screen Series
A series of screened operas from the world's most prestigious opera houses and festivals, with eye-opening introduction lectures by the series' editor, Merav Barak
By: Giuseppe Verdi
Stage: Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera)
The combination of Giuseppe Verdi and William Shakespeare is undoubtedly a recipe for success, certainly when their psychological thriller revolves around Iago, the unbridledly evil and jealous contriver - a masterful poison machine, the role played by famous baritone Ludovic Tézier. Jonas Kaufmann as Otello conquers the Olympus of heroic tenor roles. Completing the illustrious cast is fabulous soprano singer Rachel Willis-Sørensen as Desdemona.
