The World No Longer Belongs (Only) to the Young
Fashion, Art and Culture Series
Editor and lecturer: Yaara Keidar, art curator and fashion historian
Could we be at the dawn of a new era in fashion, where age has no meaning and style no age? Has the world of fashion matured and stopped worshipping the young? The intricate connections between fashion and aging have taken on different expressions throughout history: Marie Antoinette's silver hair trend is making a comeback now, but – obviously – there's the ongoing pursuit of the mythological fountain of youth.
In the last decade, there has been a change in perception brought on by internet platforms. Blogs and Instagram accounts have broken through age conventions, opening the stage for women of all ages. One of the most famous is Iris Apfel, the fashion icon who recently passed away at the age of one hundred and two, who made it to the cover of Harper's Bazaar magazine. The lecture is a cross-generational encounter celebrating beauty and style at every age.
