China Through the Looking Glass
Fashion, Art and Culture Series
Editor and lecturer: Yaara Keidar, art curator and fashion historian
The label "Made in China" will probably exceed your preconception -- a Journey Between East and West following the 2015 "China Through the Looking Glass" exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The lecture will explore the influence of Chinese aesthetics on Western fashion and the attractiveness of China and the Far East, which has ignited the Western imagination from the sixteenth century to Yves Saint Laurent. The cultural dialogue will also raise ethical questions following the representation of "ethnic otherness" in Western museums.
