In Paris, in the 1930s, a young and beautiful actress (and pretty talentless, too) by the name of Madeleine is accused of murdering a famous producer. Her best friend, Pauline, a budding jobless lawyer, offers to help her. Madeleine is acquitted of the accusation on the grounds of self-defense. The trial opens doors for her; soon enough, Madeleine becomes a star and a feminist icon. But – you know how it is - the truth tends to come out after all.
