An enthralling musical based on Zohar Argov's life story
By: Gadi Tzedaka
Cast: Bar Tzabari, Kobi Maor, Libi Panker, Julieta, Dana Lapidot, and more actors and dancers
"King" Zohar Argov's life story, while bringing authentic Yemenite singing traditions to the fore, is rooted in a harsh childhood stricken by poverty, an alcoholic father, and a helpless, loving mother. Argov's career produced one-off songs but was marred by social and personal struggles. His desire to win love and a place in his listeners' hearts and to establish a life of comfort and ease was hampered by severe addiction to drugs, erupting in attacks of violence—the musical touches on the subtle nuances of Israeli society from the 1970s to the present day.
The show features songs such as: "Et Dodim" (Time of Love), Marlen, "Adam Nolad Lihyot Sakhkan" (A Man was Born to be an Actor), "Ma Lakh, Yalda" (What is it, Girl?), "Lihyot Adam" (To be a Man), "Yam shel Dma'ot" (A Sea of Tears), Sod Hamazalot (The Secret of the Zodiac), Elinor, "Kvar Avru Hashanim" (The Years Have Passed), "HaPerakh Beganni" (The Flower in my Garden), "Tzel Etz Tamar" (The Shadow of a Palm Tree),and many more.
