Between Holy and Holon
Beit Lessin Theatre
A New Israeli Comedy
By: Daniel Lapin
Director: Ilan Ronen
Cast: Avi Kushnir, Limor Goldstein, Hilla Sarjon-Fisher, May Keshet / Meital Notik and Or Aboutboul / Tom Hagi
Yehuda Weiss, a well-to-do businessman, lives happily with Ayala, with whom he fell in love when he left religious life. The two raise their daughter, Yael. What Ayala doesn't know is that when Yehuda is supposedly off to Belgium for business on some regular days of the week, he drives to Jerusalem to be with his ultra-Orthodox "other" family. Parallelly, his wife, Sarah, doesn't know that when Yehuda is supposed to conduct his business in Belgium, he doffs his black coat and kippah and runs to lead his "secular routine" in Holon. Yehuda Weiss leads a double life because, to this day, he has not been able to choose his path. When Yael, his secular daughter, informs him that she has fallen in love with an ultra-orthodox youth, Yehuda feels that the double disguise begins to suffocate him. His attempts to extricate himself get him even more entangled. Ultimately, when the truth comes to light, yet another surprise pops up, and nothing is as it seems.
After the sweeping success of "Four Mothers", playwright Daniel Lapin and director Ilan Ronen return with a crazy and thought-provoking comedy about the most common Israeli neurosis: tradition and liberalism dwelling (disharmoniously) within one person.
