Austria, 1938. Maria, a young nun full of joie de vivre, finds it difficult to comply with the convent's strict rules. Consequently, the Mother Superior sends her to serve as a nanny for the seven children of Captain von Trapp, a widowed and austere Austrian army officer. Soon, Maria turns the vo Trapp household from a garrison of strict rules and iron discipline to a home full of joy, laughter, and music. She wins the children's hearts and later their father's.
