Indecent
Cameri Theatre
The true stories behind the scandals of the play God of Vengenance.
The play tells the story of a group of actors led by a director, who emerge from their graves and are resurrected in front of a theater audience. Under the director and accompanied by a alive chamber orchestra, the actors embark on a journey across continents and languages, telling us the story of a small and brilliant play that "infected" dozens of people with a passion for theater and led them to embark on a battle for freedom of expression.
The play Indecent presents the history of Sholem Asch's scandalous play God of Vengeance, written in l1906. Its presentation in world theaters was accompanied by scandals, boycotts and excommunication, until Sholem Asch himself prohibited its presentation following the Holocaust, convinced that the play could stain the Jews as immoral and corrupt by nature.
The play is accompanied by songs, in the spirit of Broadway musicals. It has been presented with resounding success on Broadway.
